General Cable Reports Second Quarter Results

General Cable Corporation (NYSE: BGC), one of the most geographically diversified industrial companies, reported today revenues and earnings for the second quarter ended July 3, 2009. Diluted earnings per share for the second quarter of 2009 were $1.00. Included in these results were approximately $0.13 per share of non-cash net lower of cost or market (LCM) inventory accounting related gains and $0.15 per share of non-cash interest charges resulting from the application of FASB Staff Position APB 14-1, Accounting for Convertible Debt Instruments That May Be Settled in Cash Upon Conversion (including Partial Cash Settlement). Before the impact of these items, adjusted non-GAAP earnings per share for the second quarter of 2009 would have been $1.02.

Bulgin Connectors Now Offer Higher Current Ratings

Bulgin’s range of Standard Buccaneer waterproof connectors now has higher current ratings for two-, three-, four-, six- and seven-pole versions. VDE has approved increased current ratings for two and three poles from 10A/250V to 12A/250V, four poles from 6A/250V to 10A/250V and six and seven poles from 3A/250V to 5A/250V. This range of IP68-rated connectors comprises seven body styles, including flex, flex inline, front and rear panel, PCB, bulkhead and flange mounting and is available in two, three, four, six, seven, nine, 12 and 25 poles.

Ratings range from 1A/50V to 12A/250V. Cable acceptance for the flex and flex inline connectors is 6mm to 8mm diameter cable as standard, extending to 3.5mm to 9mm with the use of alternative glands and colour-coded identification variants are available in all styles. Accessories include sealing caps, insulation boots, cable support accessories and the new rear of panel-mounting backshells, providing a rear of panel seal to the panel-mounting connectors in this range.

The Standard Buccaneer range carries UL and CSA approvals, as well as VDE approval for the higher ratings. This range, which is suitable for applications where the ingress of dust or water is inherent, will now be extended with the new higher current ratings. Possible applications include water monitoring meters, traffic control systems, CCTV systems, heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems, environmental monitoring systems, underwater communications equipment and medical equipment.
