Tyco announces FCI licence for connector range

Tyco Electronics has announced that its Multi-beam XLE power-distribution connector family has been licensed with FCI.

Building on the existing cross-license for Multi-beam XL and Pwrblade connectors in place since 2000, the licence will create a certified second source for the higher-performing Multi-beam XLE connectors.

The product offers up to 20A per linear inch – a 40 per cent improvement in current-carrying capacity than the Multi-beam XL in the same footprint.

They offer more configuration options for power and signals, 40 per cent lower mating force and higher durability cycles due to new contact and housing designs.

SEACOM Connectivity Extends Across East Africa

SEACOM, Uganda Telecom Ltd (UTL) and Rwandatel S.A. (RTL) today announced a major partnership that further extends the reach of international broadband capacity across eastern Africa. Through concurrent deals, UTL and RTL, both subsidiaries of the Libyan Africa Portfolio LAP Green Networks, have purchased a significant amount of international broadband capacity from SEACOM whilst SEACOM has in turn secured a backhaul solution for Rwanda on the two regional players’ terrestrial networks between Kampala, Uganda and Kigali, Rwanda. Under the terms of the partnership agreement, both entities will have immediate access to the SEACOM network.

Nexans Secures Major Frame Agreement with BP Exploration and Production Inc. for Deep Water Umbilical Projects in the Gulf of Mexico

Nexans (Paris:NEX), the worldwide leader in the cable industry, has secured a frame agreement with BP Exploration & Production Inc. for deep water umbilical projects in the Gulf of Mexico that could be worth as much as $300 million in total. The frame agreement is initially for one year; however, BP has the right to extend the agreement for an additional four year period.

Ducab posts 18% drop in H1 sales

A statement issued by UAE-based manufacturer of power cables in the Middle East, Ducab, said that the company saw an 18 percent decline in sales during the first half of the year, over the same period of 2008, primarily due to the slump in the real estate sector, Khaleej Times reported.
