Nexans supplies innovative Superconducting Fault Current Limiter to Applied Superconductor Ltd

Nexans, the worldwide leader in the cable industry, has supplied a superconducting fault current limiter to Applied Superconductor Limited (ASL) for a pilot installation in the UK. ASL, a UK company based in Blyth, Northumberland is currently installing and commissioning the innovative component into a medium voltage (11 kV) substation in Lancashire, where it will aid optimizing performance and safety of the local power network.

Marshall-Tufflex’s newly launched antimicrobial trunking system has created a huge amount of interest, with a number of healthcare trusts up and down the country discussing its potential with the manufacturer. Bio Trunking Solutions is a PVC-U cable management system impregnated with a silver-based antimicrobial agent that is proven to render harmless many of the most virulent bacteria, for example MRSA, E-Coli and Salmonella. If someone carrying one of these bugs touches the treated PVC-U, bacteria transferred to the trunking begins to die, minimising the risk of cross contamination. On untreated products, the harmful bacteria will grow.

HUBER+SUHNER reduces approximately 100 jobs worldwide and introduces short-time working in some areas

Due to a noticeable drop in orders since November 2008 and the generally bleak economic global outlook for 2009, HUBER+SUHNER is having to cut about 100 of an approximate 3,500 jobs worldwide. Most of the jobs will go through staff turnover and retirement but some redundancies, unfortunately, can not be avoided. Approximately 25 redundancies will be in Switzerland.

EWCS to close down its Hungary plant
