June 12, 2008LS Cable announced Wednesday that it has agreed to acquire Superior Essex of the U.S., the largest wire and cable maker in North America and 10th largest in the world. The acquisition is expected to help the Korean company leap from the world’s seventh largest wire and cable manufacturer to third. LS Cable will set up a holding company in the U.S. with W356 billion (US$1=W1,030) and use that to publicly purchase stocks for a month under a deal with Superior Essex.

First high voltage cable production for TELE-FONIKA Kable in Canada
June 11, 2008At the end of 2007, the subsidiary trade company TELE-FONIKA Cable Americas, which provides cable on the markets of North and South America, won a contract for provision of high voltage cable to consumers in Canada. Cable manufactured in Bydgoszcz Facility with a voltage of 115 kV and with a 380 mm² cross-section will be provided to the firm Syncrude in Mildred Lake, which is located approx. 40 km to the north of Fort McMurray in Alberta, Canada. Syncrude is the largest producer of synthetic materials produced on the basis of oil derivatives created as a result of refining crude oil.

Oki Electric Cable develops industry first FPC for three-dimension wiring
June 11, 2008Oki Electric Cable Co., Ltd. today announced it is the first in the industry to unveil an FPC that can form and hold a three-dimensional shape. The company will offer this “Three-dimensional Flexible Printed Circuit Cable Board (3D FPC)” starting today. Superior Essex talks with LS Cable on buyout offer
June 11, 2008Wire and cable maker Superior Essex Inc. said Tuesday it is talking with LS Cable Ltd. about a $45-per-share buyout proposal. Seoul, South Korea-based LS Cable initially approached Superior Essex (nasdaq: SPSX – news – people ) with a $36-per-share proposal on March 24, 2008, Superior Essex said. LS Cable says its $45 per share offer is its final proposal, Superior Essex said.

Prysmian Cables & Systems, a worldwide leading player in the energy and telecom cable sectors, has signed a four-year frame agreement with Brazil’s Petrobras, for the design and supply of flexible pipes for offshore oil&gas extraction. Initial supplies’ value is $135 million with significant potential development.
