NEW BUSINESS UNIT BELDEN EMEA Solutions for Data Transmission in Automation

Belden Inc., headquartered in St. Louis (Missouri, U.S.A.), has consolidated its affiliated Belden Europe (Venlo, The Netherlands), HEW-Kabel (Wipperfürth, Germany), Hirschmann Automation and Control (Neckartenzlingen, Germany) and Lumberg Automation (Schalksmühle, Germany) companies into the newly formed business unit of Belden EMEA. Its operational headquarters will be located in the greater area of Stuttgart (Germany). Dr. Wolfgang Babel, who already headed Hirschmann and Lumberg Automation, was named President of Belden EMEA. Together, with more than 2,200 employees worldwide, the four companies combine comprehensive expertise in the field of data transmission. Besides a broad portfolio of copper and fiberoptic cables as well as automation components, Belden EMEA will – in future – also provide solutions for the communications technology in automation. To this end, the business unit plans to further complement its activities with proprietary developments as well as through acquisition. Turnover, which totalled approx. EUR 550 million in 2007, is expected to be doubled within the next few years.

Belden introduces new components to provide end-to-end solutions for Industrial Ethernet cabling

Belden, a leader in the design, manufacturing and marketing of signal transmission products, has introduced a series of new components for Industrial Ethernet conductivity to complement Belden’s high performance unshielded and shielded twisted pair cables with bonded-pair technology.

Suitable for industrial environments

 Belden has introduced a range of new connectivity components including cord sets; modular jacks; plug kits as well as new accessories including stainless steel faceplates; surface mount boxes; hands tools to crimp either UTP or FTP RJ45 plugs, cable strippers and punch-down connecting equipment to meet the needs of Industrial Ethernet (IE) users.

3M introduces new .100 wire to board connectors

3M introduced three new series of .100” wire-to-board connectors, the D89 Series Wiremount sockets, the Four-Wall Header D2500 Series and the Latch/Eject Headers D3000 Series. These new products feature 10μ” (micro inch) gold plated contacts, which provide for maximum economy while retaining 3M’s high standards for performance and reliability, making them ideal for high-volume, price-sensitive applications. Polarization slots provide for quick connections while minimizing misalignments.

DSM Arnitel C TPE for wire and cable offers best high-heat aging performance, plus halogen-free flame retardance

DSM Engineering Plastics has announced a new addition to its Arnitel® line of copolyester thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs) that is designed to meet the stringent performance and compliance needs of today’s automotive designers. Arnitel® C, a breakthrough technology for wire and cable coating, delivers the best high-heat aging performance of any TPE-E, combined with halogen-free flame retardance and hydrolysis resistance that surpasses that of other copolyester elastomers. Thanks to its excellent abrasion resistance, this new material offers designers the ability to reduce the weight and mass of wiring and cable through ultra-thin-wall coatings. In addition to automotive engine cables, Arnitel® C is ideal for other extrusion applications including cable harness components, convoluted tubes and hoses.

DRAKA to close Vigo Spain plant

As a consequence of the fact that Draka’s important automotive customers (Tier 1 harness suppliers) in Spain are relocating their production facilities to low labour cost countries in North Africa and Eastern Europe, the Board of Management of Draka Holding N.V. announces that it has decided to close its factory in Vigo (Spain), which is part of its Automotive & Aviation division.

1967 – Established with the joint venture of Thai and Taiwanese investors (Walsin Lihwa Electric & Cable Corp. and Pacific Electric Wire & Cable Co.,Ltd.) It was granted promotional privileges by the Board of Investment. The capital investment was started up with Baht10 Million.

1968 – Constructed plant and installed machines.

1969 – Began production of Aluminium and supplied to domestic electricity authorities.

1970 – Expanded production of Copper Rolling, Copper Melting and Copper Cable to meet the increasing demand of the market. And the capital investment was increased to Bath 12 Million.

NKT cables wins prestigious extra high voltage project in the Netherlands

nkt cables has been selected by TenneT TSO B.V.( the Transmission System Operator of the Netherlands) to design, manufacture and install a 380 kV cable system in the ’Zuidring’ connection in the western part of the Netherlands. nkt cables offer provides the technical, logistical and managerial aspects of this high-visibility project in the Netherlands’ transmission grid. The commercial value of the project is at least 35 mEURO, but depends on the final decisions of the Dutch government regarding overhead lines versus cables. The potential project value could yield as much as 120 mEURO. The scheduled completion of the project is expected by the end of 2010. Winning the Dutch project, nkt cables concludes that the company~{!/~}s systems approach’ in Extra High Voltage is met by a sound resonance in the market for winning projects – now and in the future.
