Lapp Group News – “India is an affair of the heart”

The Lapp Corporate Group, based in Stuttgart, became involved in the Indian subcontinent at a very early stage. As early as 1996, Lapp invested roughly € 10 million in the construction of a new production plant in Bangalore. A forward-looking decision. In the past five years alone, Lapp India has grown annually by about 30 percent. The cable machines run day and night to satisfy orders from more than 1500 Indian customers, including car and railway carriage manufacturers, oil companies, mechanical engineers and the shipping industry. Each year about 35,000 kilometres of ÖLFLEX® connecting and control cables and insulated single cores are produced – almost exclusively for the Indian market. In contrast to many other companies, the Lapp Group focuses on India as the most important country in Asia. The site is under continuous development.

For Andreas Lapp, Managing Director of Lapp Holding AG, the company’s commitment to India is also an affair of the heart. He wants to see bridges built between people and cultures, business and science. This is why, since his appointment in 2001 as Honorary Consul of the Republic of India for Baden-Württemberg and Rhineland-Palatinate, Andreas Lapp has devoted even greater effort to achieving his goal.

To further extend trade relations between India and Baden-Württemberg, just two years ago the Indian Business Centre Stuttgart was founded at the Lapp Group premises in Stuttgart-Vaihingen. By providing fully furnished offices, technical infrastructure and expert advice, the centre aims to make it easier for Indian companies to locate in Baden-Württemberg. The first medium-sized Indian enterprises have already located to Stuttgart.

The Lapp Group is also the principal sponsor of the “Bollywood and Beyond” Indian film festival in Stuttgart. Meanwhile, the honorary consulate co-ordinates all the activities involved in Stuttgart’s India Week.

The Indian honorary consulate is working very closely with the state capital Stuttgart and is promoting a wide range of activities in connection with the twinning arrangement between Stuttgart and Mumbai (formerly called Bombay). Honorary Consul Andreas Lapp is organising the fifth “Stuttgart meets Mumbai” wine festival in Mumbai. Held from 1st to 3rd February 2008, it aims to further extend contacts between India and Stuttgart. The year 2008 will see celebrations to mark a 40 year relationship between Mumbai and Stuttgart as twin towns.

The Lapp Group, based in Stuttgart Vaihingen, is one of the world’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of high flexibility cables, cable accessories, industrial connectors, pre-assembled cables and communication technology. With over 40,000 individual products, the LAPP Group is one of the major international suppliers in machine and plant construction, automation technology and measurement and control technology for the automotive industry as well as for the electrical engineering, installation, transport and energy sectors, among others.

The Lapp Group has 3000 employees worldwide, 56 wholly-owned companies and around 100 representative offices.  Turnover is expected to be 1.2 billion Euro in the 2007/08 financial year.
